Traqueur de climat est partenaire avec le Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation to help mentor climate journalists and writers. Five aspiring and emerging climate journalists will be selected from different regions to participate in online mentorship with Climate Tracker.
They’ll receive guidance and training from us, will publish articles and videos for the LDF One Earth website, and receive a monthly stipend of USD150.
The topic of climate change is often overhwelming and apocolyptic. We want to take a different approach. In the spirit of the the One Earth climate model, we want to demonstrate how we can solve the global climate crisis with currently available technologies.
Here’s some background about the One Earth climate model. Funded by the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation and released by Springer Nature, it offers a roadmap for meeting — and surpassing — the targets set by the Paris Climate Agreement. The One Earth climate model shows the 1.5°C can be achieved through a rapid transition to 100% renewables by 2050, alongside land restoration efforts on every continent that increase the resilience of natural ecosystems and help to ensure greater food security.
Traqueur de climat is looking for stories about local solutions and responses to climate change. How have individuals, communities, or governments harnessed the powers of technology, science, community activism, policy, or others to solve the climate crisis?
Some examples could be: How are local councils redesigning their cities to be green and sustainable? How are indigenous communities responding to climate change and protecting their land rights? Is there a promising startup harnessing the powers of technology and innovation? Are youth groups effectively organising to influence international governments on climate change policies?
(Note that we are ne saurait pas looking for stories on false solutions, which include nuclear power, biofuels, new hydro, geo-engineering, or carbon capture and storage.)
Your article should be at least 500 words.
We prefer it when writers have interviewed at least two people for their article — for example, experts, community members, or policymakers.
